How to Buy Rubies

How to Buy RubiesIt is a good idea to know how to buy rubies before you embark on a trip to buy rubies, especially if you don’t want any old rubies but the best you can afford on your budget.

Here are some pointers you can use when you go out to buy rubies.

1. Have an idea how much you are going to spend. What is your budget? If you do this you will not overspend when a sales person gets really persuasive.

2. Spend at the top of your budget. This means that you can buy the very best you can afford. Don’t try to ‘save’ money and get the cheapest. The cheapest is usually worth less or nothing.

3. Do some research and find out what is available. There are hundreds of ruby sellers online and it is a good place to browse in the comfort of your own home just to find out what is available and what might strike your fancy.

4. Understand a bit about rubies. There is heaps of information about rubies on this website so do browse the website and get as much information as you can. You can even print off various pages to take with you when you go ruby shopping.

5. Decide what sort of settings you want. Is it going to be gold, or platinum or something else. Is it going to be a ring, or a pair of earrings or what?

6. When you know what you want and roughly how much it costs, go out to the local jewelers and gem dealers in your area. Take with you some information so you are armed with the information you need to make an informed choice. It is not just about how pretty the salesperson tells you the ruby is. It is also about what sort of ruby is it. What quality and how bit and where does it come from. Is there a certificate to go with the ruby?

7. Lastly arrange to check the ruby in natural daylight. The jewelers lights are designed to show off gemstones to their best effect but sometimes they do not. Also you get a real idea of what the ruby is going to look like against your skin in natural light.

Of course, how to buy rubies should include that you buy what YOU want to buy not what the salesperson wants to sell you.
