A Motorola RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition mobile phone inlaid with 187 rubies and plated with 18kt gold will come under the hammer on February 2 at 8.30pm.

Taking artisans at the Cuu Long Jewelry Company ten days to decorate, this cell phone fetches a starting price of VND50 million (US$3,000).

The auction is to be broadcast live on Ho Chi Minh City Television’s HTV9 channel. Its proceeds will partly be donated to the “Fund for the poor” managed by the Viet Nam Fatherland Front.

Plated with gold, boasting elaborate engravings and a black snakeskin, this exclusive Motorola RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition was debuted in Viet Nam last December and is priced at VND13,900,000 (US$870).
